This is a very easy fun hike to do if you have kids in tow. There are a few climbs here and there but for the most part the trail is pretty level and very well maintained. You will pass several small waterfalls along your way to your destination of Spray Falls. For the best view, cross the river. This is a great place to watch the water cascading down the rocks while eating your lunch.
Directions: Drive State Highway 410 until you get to Buckley. You will come to a complicated intersection at the southeast corner. Turn south onto State Highway 162 toward Wilkenson. After about 2 miles this road will T. Turn left onto State Highway 165. You will follow this road for about 8.5 miles, past Wilkenson, Carbonado adn a one-lane bridge over the Carbon River. The road will come to a Y-intersection, stay to the right that heads to Mowich Lake. You will follow this road, that eventually turns into gravel, for about 11 miles to it's end. The trail head is just to the right of the walk in camp ground at the South end of Mowich Lake.
There is a day use fee that you will have to pay about half way up your last road, since it is a National Park. There will be a self-pay station to your right, you can't miss it.
Update July 14, 2014
As you can see from my last entry, it has been 5 years since I have been on this hike. I remember it being beautiful, but I didn't remember much else about it to be honest. I thought it was time to try it out again. It did not disappoint, as it is a very beautiful hike. However, I have upgraded the difficulty from easy to moderate. I was with a friend, and she was teasing me that "if this is your easy, then I never want to try your hard". I guess it's good to get other peoples perspective on things.
I can say though, we missed the turnoff to get down to the base of the falls. I don't know if it's because I was too busy visiting and playing with her kids or what, but we never made it down there. We didn't have a lack of waterfalls though, and still had a great time!!
Make sure when you do this hike to take the little detour to Eagles Nest lookout - it is so beautiful, and the mountain is larger than life. If you go late in the season there are also a lot of berries along the trail just waiting to be devoured by hungry hikers.
