Green River Gorge

Difficulty: Easy
1 mile round trip

A nice place to sit and relax with rocks a plenty to throw into the water, but that's about all this place offers. It is a great hike for those of you with small children or brand new hikers just looking for a small hike to tackle.

We have tried on several occasions to go to the GR Gorge, but have not been able to find it successfully. On this particular occasion we were determined and were not going to leave until it was found. Success prevailed.

The climb down into the Gorge is steep which makes a very long climb back out again. In a way it is beautiful down there, and in all fairness the Gorge is very long and there are many places to put into it. I can say that where we were wasn't really that special. It might have been better if you could actually hike around once you were down there, but that is not possible. It could be a fun place to swim if the weather was hot and you were an extremely strong swimmer. I would not let any small children in there though!

Directions: Follow State Highway 169 past Black Diamond and cross the Green River Bridge. At 1.7 miles from the bridge, turn left at 385th (there will be a sign on the road pointing the way). Then go 0.1 miles and turn left again onto the Enumclaw-Franklin Road. Go 3.3 miles from the bridge to the trail head.

This is a little hard to find as there is not signage at this point. You will find an old service road with a gate on the left hand side. Park by the gate, hike around and just start following the trail down to the Gorge.
