Iwetemlaykin State Park

Difficulty: Easy
About 1 1/2 miles

I live in Seattle, but love to go hiking wherever I am. We spent a week at Wallawa Lake, Oregon with family last week and had a blast exploring a whole new area. This hike is really more of a walk, but so amazingly beautiful that it is very much worth your time if you are ever up there.

Trails snake through a prairie type landscape with mountains surrounding you. There is a river that runs through part of the area and is slow enough to play on the bank. There is also a pond in the middle perfect for rock skipping.

Directions: From La Grande, Oregon. Head NW on HWY 30 toward Island Ave. Take a right onto Island Ave. At 2 1/2 miles turn left onto N. McAlister Road and travel on this for 18 miles. Turn right onto Albany St/Wallawa LK Hwy for 26.6 miles. Keep right at the fork and continue for another 17.7 miles. Turn right onto N. River St. at the town of Enterprise. Continue to drive until you go through the little town of Joseph and the trail head will be on the right hand side as you get out of town.
