Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 3 Miles
Discovery Pass Required
This hike is short, easy and beautiful. It's perfect on those days the kids are getting antsy in the summer time and need something to workout some energy.
This hike was a little unusual, as we couldn't start at the regular trail head due to a trail washout. We were redirected to the top of the trail instead and had to hike down to the falls, instead of up. It was kind of nice however, because I have never hiked this way before, so it seemed new and exciting.
From the parking lot you are going to head up a short, steep trail that will open up and take you to the John Wayne Trail (a wide, graveled, old railroad - so super easy hiking). You will follow the JWT for about 1/3 - 1/2 mile until you get to the Twin Falls trail head on your right hand side. As long as you are paying attention, you won't miss it, as there aren't any other trail's leading down off of the JWT.
This trail is absolutely beautiful and will remind you how lucky we are to live in the Pacific Northwest - you just don't find forests like this anywhere else that I know of. Yes, we get a lot of rain, but there is a payoff for it. We have so much green, waterfalls and lakes around us that is is truly amazing.
Directions: From I-90, take exit 38 and turn right onto Homestead Valley Road. Take your very first right into the parking lot - yup, it's that easy.
